Bernard Controls, Inc. is based in Houston, TX. They are the direct subsidiary of L. Bernard , a privately owned French company. L. Bernard, headquartered just outside Paris in Gonesse, was founded in 1936. At that time the company was engaged in the design and manufacture of electric motors. Bernard Electric Actuators are available in quarter-turn, multi-turn and linear operation for both on-off and modulating service. Torque outputs are from 25ft. lbs. (300 in. lbs) to over 83,000 ft. lbs. (996,000 in. lbs.) Bernard also offers a line of Electric Spring Return Fail Safe Actuators for quarter-turn on-off and modulating service as well as linear applications.

Bernard Actuators are designed and manufactured to meet the most stringent specifications and demanding applications.

Three types of motors are available for Modulating Service:
Class III Posigam+ - 50% Duty Cycle, rated 1200 starts per hour Class II Modugam+ - 100% Duty Cycle, rated 3600 starts per hour Class I Precigam+ - 100% Duty Cycle, unlimited starts per hour thru the use of special designed brushless DC motors and controllers.

Bernard Controls, Inc. can provide motors for 115/230 VAC in 50 Hz or 60 Hz 1 phase; 400/415 VAC 50 Hz or 230/460 VAC 60 Hz 3 phase; 500/600 VAC 50/60 Hz 3 phase; 24 to 250 VDC. Special voltage motors are also available to meet your most demanding applications.

Bernard Controls, Inc. also offers Digital Pulse Controlled Actuators, Two-Wire Digital Control Actuators utilizing Field-bus Circuits and "Intelligent" Actuators which can self-monitor and report a variety of internal actuator operating functions. L. Bernard pioneered this concept over 15 years ago, and only recently has the competition begun to follow in their lead.

Bernard Actuators were introduced into the North American Market in 1985 when L. Bernard entered into a private label agreement with Bettis Corporation.

This relationship continued until late 1991, during which time thousands of actuators were sold. The two companies parted ways amicably in 1991. Since that time Bernard Controls, Inc. actuator products have been sold under their own name thru Manufacturer's Representative Firms, OEM and Valve Companies, and Valve Automation Centers/Distributors. On a global scale, L. Bernard sells and services their products in over 50 countries world-wide.

Bernard Controls, Inc. directly competes with such actuator manufacturers as Limitorque, Rotork, Beck, Auma, EIM and Jordan Controls. The Bernard product line is, at the very least, equal in quality, reliability and durability to our competition. Pricing is extremely competitive.

Bernard actuators are currently being sold on a Private Label basis to Milwaukee Valve, Conbraco/Apollo Valve Company and Several other OEM Companies. Since our introduction, more valve and damper manufacturers are continuing to standardize on Bernard actuators.

Bernard Controls, Inc. markets include Electric Utilities, Chemical, Petro-chemical, Energy, Water and Wastewater, Sewage Treatment, Marine, General Industrial and the Federal Government. L. Bernard S.A. is heavily involved in the European Nuclear Power Industry, with hundreds of their Safety Related Actuators in use for critical Containment Service in Power Stations throughout the Continent.
